SPECIAL SATURDAY UPDATE: COUGARS TRIUMPHANT!!!!!

Statement game? - PittsburghLIVE.com

Okay-- today is the nicest day in the Yough School District in 12 years. Some of you out there will say that me linking to my High School's football results shows I haven't let go, but that's far from the truth.

The truth is that losing to Belle Vernon for 12 straight years is just sort of the thing that haunts all Cougar fans, whether they know it or not. Belle Vernon Area is the big, neighbor school district that always tools on us in everything (except Quiz Team ;) ) They're the Yankees to our Red Sox. They're girls are prettier, their guys have bigger muscles, and the all drive faster cars. That's just how it seems.

A perennial powerhaus in all sports, but mostly football, they've beat us up for years. Ever since the coach that took us to the playoffs the only three times in school history jumped ship, took his son (our QUARTERBACK) with him, and started winning state titles down the other end of Route 51, we've been the ugly stepsister to the Leopards in the Keystone Conference.

Well, not anymore. Today the sky's a little brighter. Today the victory bell at BVA high will not ring. Because today is a happy day on Cougar Mountain.

The last time we beat them, the Pirates were in the Playoffs. As my friend Josh said to me last night, "The last time we beat BVA, we were in the eighth grade... now I teach seventh graders...The last time we beat them, Barry Bonds was a Pirate, and if someone would have told you that he'd one day own the single season AND the all time homerun records, you would've laughed at them."

The long nightmare is over, Cougars fans.
Congratulations.
