MY KINGDOM!: the HINES WARD of Blogs

QUICK AND DIRTY: "Don't tease me about my hobbies, I don't tease you about being an asshole."

Friends, Romans, Anchovie lovers, lend me your ears,

I'm too damn tired from a long, lonnnng day to finish writing 'bout Saturday today, and there were no good poll ideas to use, hence, no big post today. I'm still working my way through this transition back to school, so just bare with me a few more days, and we'll have all the kinks worked out, and be back to our regularly awesome schedule.

Anyhow, before I head to bed, I wanted to totally DENY that I blew a 13-2 lead on Sprout in racquetball today by yielding 13 consecutive points. Can anyone say "choke." I felt like a Red Sock.

I'd also like to give a shout out to my Squirrel Hill Bitches, Jeanie and Justine, for a night of pizza/movie swellness. Let me say that I give "Garden State" the highest of recommendations. Not only did I fall in love with Natalie Portman all over again, but I also wish I could write something that simultaneously clever, insightful, and cute. It's on my DVD buy-list with Star Wars, Spidey 2, Eternal Sunshine, and Troy. Guess I'd better start working more hours at BS&H.

Okay, kiddies, that'll do for now. I'm headed to a cozy world of sweet dreams and such, content and energized by the good feelings that come with getting a heavy weight off of my shoulders.

Uram, if you're out there, GO POSTAL already! Other friends, if you're new, please post-up and say hello. Come up with a catchy handle for yourself, or I'll make you one. I'm willing to bump the poll back to later in the week, if anyone out there has any good ideas! Banner, are you out there? Are you rowing?

g'night, I'm goin Where the Wild Things Are.

  • APK - Banner is currently in upstate NY doing research for his... research. Anyway, rest assured that he misses you terribly.

Does Kup read this? If not, tell him that he's missed terribly by me, and that I can't wait to see his sweet ass in State College this weekend.

One other thing, you mentioned that you're a Bill Simmons reader. Allow me to suggest checking out TMQ and his intellectual football commentary: http://www.nfl.com/writers/easterbrook
Myself and Barnett are big fans.

  • Staubber, I am a well-read TMQ fan, and only recently realized that he turned up on NFL.com after being uncerimoniously axed by ESPN last year. Thanks for the link!

Kupper, since I'm almost CERTAIN that the "funny story" doesn't include me, email it along, and I promise not to lose it this time, and to post it sometime this afternoon/evening.

  • APK - you know why TMQ got axed by ESPN, right? He made some kind of disparaging comment about... some movie... shit, I forget. Whatever. The movie happened to be under the Disney umbrella and the big wigs there felt that they couldn't have any dissension in the ranks. So he was let go like a vet with a high salary cap number. At least that's what Barnett told me.

Kup - we're so hooking up this weekend!!! With chicks, I mean.

  • Actually, Staubber, TMQ made some sort of vaguely, but not really, anti-Semtic remarks, or something, which pissed of all the Jews in charge of Disney. He was actually making some sort of statement about "The Passion of the Christ" before it came out, and how the anti-Semeticism fears about it were unfounded, if I remember. So he made some analogy about how it'd be just as ridiculous if Disney execs greenlighted a movie that cast Catholics poorly, and everybody thought it meant that Disney hates Catholics. Or something. Anyway, it was dumb, and ESPN has a history of cutting people and never speaking of them again (see Kellerman, Max) which is why I was REALLY scared that Wilbon and Kornheiser were uncerimoniously cut. Anyway(s), I prefer Simmons, but I'm a big fan of TMQ, and am excited to read him every week. You may be interested to know that his "favorite obscure college" California U. of PA is a mere half-hour or so from where I grew up, and I've been there often. Or not.

Kujo, I would love a copy of the soundtrack. The movie was awesome, and I've recently been exposed to indy-type music of that sort, and have found it enjoyable. My address is as follows:

    707 Atlantic Ave.
    Forest Hills, PA 15221

(anyone out there who wants to send money, do so)

    how's the beer?

  • ooh.. well-played. I KNEW that, ("indie") just a typo since I was quickly writing at work. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not perfect.

As for the beer. We've only ever made one batch, because we're too lazy to clean everything. Ours smelled like a rubbing alcohol/lime mix, so i think you're doin' okay. Buff has said that the best thing to do is let it ferment forever, and just forget about it, because it makes it extra good. But who has that kind of patience? Although, I've got one bottle of my first batch that's been in there since February. Might be worth trying... hmmm?

  • Interesting idea, Jewkowski. Jeanette's pretty much my resident expert on indie music, but I'll be honest, (and she'll admit it) she's snobby about it. So whip me somethin' up in the ol' email, and I'll give you a little Kujo's Korner to play with-- and then we'll see how the fans adore you.
